Making the connection

The information below is intended to be a brief overview of the possible ways you can connect with your new HP Mobile Broadband notebook. If you'd prefer a more in-depth, illustrated approach, check out our notebook WWAN Activation Demo
You can activate wireless service for your HP Mobile Broadband notebook in several ways:
•  Contact your selected wireless carrier – by phone, or go to a retail store (note: not all wireless stores can activate notebooks, so it's best to call first) – and set up new service
•  Call HP Wireless at 1-866-890-6938
•  Or use the HP Connection Manager software that comes pre-installed to walk you through the activation process – online!
Note: If HP Connection Manager didn't come installed on your computer, you can download it from the Hewlett-Packard Technical Support website. Sprint support is available in HP Connection Manager 2.0 or higher.
To activate your new wireless service you will need to provide one or more of the following numbers when activating service:
•  MEID (Mobile Equipment Identifier) – required for Sprint and Verizon Wireless Activation
•  IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) and ICCID (International Circuit Card ID) – both are required for AT&T
Note: Sprint is supported in HP Connection Manager 2.0 or greater. Go to Downloading HP Connection manager (394 KB, PDF) for instructions on how to download.
You can find these numbers
•  On a label on your notebook packaging (look for the part name "HP un2400" Mobile Broadband Module)
•  On a label under the battery bay in your notebook computer (look for the part name "HP un2400" Mobile Broadband Module)
•  Via the HP Connection Manager "Diagnostics" tool

As a mobile worker, with HP Mobile Broadband you have a flexible approach to staying productive wherever you are. A WWAN connection means you can continue accessing the web or send emails from more places, worldwide — without having to worry about sticking close to a coffee shop or getting stuck in your hotel room. For a funny, yet accurate, look at how expensive and frustrating it can be to roam around looking for Wi-Fi, check out the video Hot Spot Hunters.

ROI

Before you decide on a WWAN strategy, it helps to understand the true costs of WLAN usage. Adding HP Mobile Broadband to your HP notebook adds very little in the way of equipment cost, and is one way to "future proof" your investment if you opt to move from WLAN dependence to WWAN. This section will help you to assess the return you might realize on your investment in WWAN.
The Yankee Group forecast the travel rates of various types of workers and various access costs in order to look at real ROI, and determined that for the infrequent traveler, WLAN offered similar ROI to WWAN. However, that significant cost savings can be achieved through WWAN as the worker's mobility increases, as shown in the following table. If a user travels more than 5 days per month, they can save money on accessing the internet if they use a monthly mobile broadband plan.
Comparison Factors Transient Worker Road Warriors Occasional Business Traveler
Average travel (days per week) 4 or more 2 to 3 1
Mobile workers who fit the segment 4 to 6 percent (for example, consultants) 8 to 10 percent (for example, senior executives and field sales force) 18 to 22 percent (for example, knowledge workers)
